Copy of a Gilbert Stuart portrait of George Washington, circa 1800, Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation collection.  The original was commissioned as a present to the Marquis of Lansdowne, the British prime minister who helped negotiate peace with America at the end of the Revolution.  The copy was executed soon after the original Lansdowne portrait.
